"Eleven"

Hello 6th Grade!

Last week we read Eleven, a story where the narrator's birthday turned upside down at school. If you'll recall, Rachel was mistaken as the owner of an "ugly red sweater" and because she did not have the courage or confidence to explain that the sweater did not belong to her, she had a miserable birthday. Do you think her birthday would have been different if she had spoken up to the teacher and the rest of the class and explained that the sweater did not belong to her? Do you think she would have been less upset and not cried in class? Could Rachel have avoided her bad day at school simply by speaking up? Explain your answers.

  1. yes, she could have not cried in class and not have had a bad day. because when she mumbled to the teacher she made the teacher think that she is not telling the truth and is embarrassed by "her sweater," but if she spoke up with confidence and politely the teacher would have realized that the sweater is not hers and Rachel would have not gotten in trouble, she wouldn't have cried, and she would not have had a bad day.

  2. I think she shouldn't have cried in the first place. But yes, I think her Birthday would have been different if she spoke up and told Mrs. Price what she really wanted to say, her feelings. She should have stood up for herself.:)

  3. I think that it would have been very easy to avoid her problem, because all she had to do was speak up to her teacher and tell her that the sweater did not belong to her. She would have avoided crying and also having to wear that ugly sweater. if she had reacted correctly she would have been able to tell her teacher politely.

  4. I think if she just admitted in front of the whole class it wasn't here's it maybe would have been better and maybe not. It may have been better if she just admitted in front of the whole class, but what if the class does not go with what she says and they still say it is her jacket then she would've cried in front of the whole class

  5. Rachael could definitely avoid this problem if she just simply said to Mrs. Price, this sweater is really not mine. At least she could have done that instead of her teacher telling Rachael to wear that sweater without knowing it was really not hers. She shouldn't have cried for that little conflict about this ugly red raggedy sweater, that her teacher thinks she knows that it is Rachael's but it really is not.

  7. I think Rachel should have spoken up to the teacher but still be respectful in the same way cause she doesn't want to get in trouble but she should have confidence in her self.

  8. i think that Rachel would have had a much better day if she just spoke up to the class and the teacher, and she wouldn't have to cry and humiliate herself in front of the whole class. Also it would have made her birthday better and she would be happily waiting to go home and celebrate.

  9. I think that rachel should have spoke up and told the teacher Mrs. Price, and the class that, that ugly red sweater wasn't belonging to her , so she would have had a much better day and look forward to going home and celebrating with her family, instead of just crying.

Well i think if she spoke up to the teacher she probably could've 1. end her shyness phobia and 2. she could've avoided having a bad day at school, and i also think she wouldn't have cried and she would've had one of the most marvelous birthdays she could ever have. That is my opinion

  11. i think that if she told the teacher that the sweater wasn't hers, she wouldn't have cried, had a bad birthday, and get embarrassed in front of the whole class. i think the out come of her birthday could have changed by just telling the teacher the sweater wasn't hers

  13. i think that Rachael should have stood up for herself and say its not her sweater. If she didn't cry like a 3 year old then she the day would have come way better even if other students make fun of her. she could have ignored the whole bad things and just celebrate her birthday.

  14. I think she would have had a good day if she would speak up and tell her teacher and her classmates that the sweater is nit hers. This would have prevented her to cry. I think she would not have had a miserable day if she said that was not her sweater and she would have enjoyed her birthday.

  15. I think Rachel would have had a great birthday if she spoke up to the teacher and class that the red sweater wasn't hers.I think Rachel would not cry or feel sad if she spoke up to the teacher. I think Rachel could of avoided her bad day and have a better one if Phyliss Lopez wouldn't tell the teacher it was her sweater instead of Rachels.
