Harriet Tubman

Hello 6th Grade Students!

This week we read about the incredibly heroic Harriet Tubman. After learning about her life and the Underground Railroad from our textbook and the animated movie we watched in class, what do you think are Harriet Tubman's main qualities? How do these qualities and characteristics enable her to gain freedom?

  1. Well Harriet Tubman is a brave, strong and helpful woman. She takes major risks that could be regretted but can save any lives. she took the risk on escaping the plantations of Dr. Thompson and taking the underground railroad to the North (Pennsylvania). After that she realized that she won't be happy until her whole family is saved. So in order for her to be happy she goes back tot the plantations and eludes the rest of the African-American slave.

The two men who were in charge of the underground railroad were telling harriet to stay away from going back to she her family at risk, but she did not listen and took the risk of.

Harriet tubman is a very brave woman. She fought against her brothers for her freedom. She gained her freedom and saved others by making 15 trips back and fourth saving over 300 slaves. if it wasn't for her bravery slavery probably might've ended in our decade and not be as powerfully as it could be now if harriet didn't preform all these crazy trips to save slaves.

  5. I think that Harriet Tubman was a very brave and willing person. She grew up strong and brave because of her slavery when she was a child. She had to do a lot of different types of hard work for her masters. These characteristics of her made her go back for a lot of slaves and free them from slavery and took them to the "Promised Land".From the movie we learned that Harriet Tubman saved 300 slaves and made 17 trips back on foot for them.

  6. I think Harriet was a brave and caring person. She had these characteristics because she grew up strong as a slave. During her young age as a slave she had to do a lot of tough work. The movie taught us that Harriet made 17 trips and saved 300 slaves.

  11. When we watched the movie I was able to relate to it more... Harriet was a strong and brave person. Despite the fact that she was a woman and a slave, she didn't give up and kept trying. When she discovered the Underground Railroad she saved herself, she didn't stop there though, she saved hundreds of other slaves too!!!
